Easy Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Flower Center Piece

Fall is such a beautiful time of year.  I just love all the leaves changing colour, they are so colourful and vibrant.  So, here is a great way to bring some of that colour into your home to enjoy.

This centerpiece is so easy and looks great, just follow along.

What You Will Need

• pumpkin
• potted plant
• ribbon
• bowl (approximate size of the flower pot)
• sharpie
• knife
• spoon

Step One
Position the bowl on the top of the pumpkin.  Make sure it is centered and even, as this is where your potted plant will go in.  When you have it in a good position, trace around it with your sharpie.

Step Two
Cut along with line with a sharp knife, making a complete circle and remove the top.

Step Three
Scoop out all of the inside of the pumpkin, making sure you get all the seeds and stringy pumpkin guts (oh yes this is my official term) out.  Make a very nice a clean inside.  You might have to scrape the sides a bit in order to get a nice smooth inside.

Feel free to separate out the pumpkin seed and dry them out.  They make a wonderful snack and are very healthy for you.

Step Four
Now check to see if the plant fits, you might find you need to trim a little more.  Now depending on the size of your plant pot it will either sit on the bottom of the pumpkin or you will want the top of the pot to fit firmly in the opening.  Just make sure the plant itself is not squished and cramped looking.

Step Five
Once you have the right size hole in the top, here is a little trick for you to keep the pumpkin for getting moldy.

Swish around some bleach inside the pumpkin.  Make sure you cover the entire inside of the pumpkin, the spill out any left over bleach out.

Note:  you might want to air it out for a few hours before putting it all together and placing on table to get ride of the bleach smell.

Step Six
Fold over the wrapping of the plant so it is even with or slightly below the top of the pot.

 I like to keep the wrapping on as it holds in the water for the plant, making sure you do not have a puddle of water growing in the bottom of the pumpkin.

Them fit in the plant, tucking in the wrapping so it is not visible and finish with a ribbon bow.

Throw Pillows - white with blue ribbons

I am still working on the final touches of our bedroom makeover.  The window seat turned out fantastic, but I never got around to making the throw pillows for it. 

I have all the fabric and pillows just need to find the time to sew them.  With Christmas fast approaching I have put it into high gear and I am determined to complete the project this week.

This is the first set of pillows I will be making.  They are white with a navy blue ribbon detailing.

After cutting the fabric into 4 rectangles, I cut the ribbon into strips and marked the fabric as to where I wanted them to go. 

I then used fusing tape to attach the ribbons to the front of the pillow fabric.

I decided to put zippers in all the pillows I make, as it just gives it that final touch and a more professional look.  Plus if you ever need to wash them it really makes it a breeze.

Here is a little trick I learned (I am not much of a sewer, so this was new to me, however, you might already know this), put the zipper in first on what ever side seam you decided then finish all the other seams up.

The ribbons took a lot longer than I thought they would, but I think the extra effort and time was well worth it.  The pillow on it's own was just to plain.

Wall Decal 2 - Tree

Now that the Big Ben Clock wall decal worked out so good, I have been dieing to put up the tree we got for the kithen.  So last night we tackled it and I have to say is looks amazing! 

I have to say I was not sure of the colour when we were ordering it, but it is very close to the colour of the other walls in the kitchen and it really makes a statement.  Let me know what you all think.

Wall Decal - Big Ben Clock

Ok I am still is decorating mode and I have completely become obssessed with vinyl wall decals, boy I will have to be careful not to go overboard. 

We ordered two, one for the kitchen wall of a tree and the other of Big Ben Clock for the top of the stairway. 

Ooooh I am so excited to get them up.

Here it is in all it's glory........never done this before, really hope it works out.

Step two.  Careful peeling off the coating..............Wow, it is really looking good.

Step 3 - Presto!  Completed and looks amazing!

Decorating Bedroom

Hi, this is my first blog and my very first post.  I have been contemplating doing this for some time now, so this is a big first step for me.  Something else I have been contemplating for a long time – like 4 years – is decorating our bedroom.  And I am glad to say that I have now accomplished both! 

So, after changing my mind a thousand times on the exact shade of blue to go with, I finally settled on the all classic navy, with a total color scheme of navy, silver and white.

And here it is!! This is the fabric I have chosen.  I really do not think that the photo does it Justice as it is absolutely beautiful.  It is a navy blue silk with silver embroidered crests, with a matching navy, silver silk and white.



Next Came the paint.  We choose Deep Royal for the feature wall and Silver Screen for all the other walls.

Now for the hard part.......painting........and sewing........

All seems to be going right alone until I started on the padded headboard.  First I was sold plastic buttons that did not work at all.  After covering ALL the buttons, and started putting them on the headboard, the string tore right through the button and popped off!  So back to the store for better button - recover all of them and then attach to headboard -- however, you would not believe what happened next -- the last box and the last button was defective!

And I have a competed headboard minus one button...........so, off the the store again.
After a few days and some frustrating moments, we finally have our room redecorated - at least the bed.......

There are still a few minor details that I am working on and will post as I complete them.

I decided to go with just white sheers on the two side windows - and WOW it really makes a difference!  Really warms up the room, I am very happy with the decision.

Now for the lighting..........I have been searching high and low for a chandalier, and I had finally found the perfect one.  However, the price was a little bit more than I wanted to spend so I just kept watching it hoping it would go on sale........and it did!!!  The price was reduced by 20% and they also had a customer appreciation sale of another additional 20% off -- even sales items............Just love it when you find the perfect item and you get such a fantasitic deal.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

As you can tell I am not a professional photographer by any means.  I hope as time goes on I will get better and taking photos, as these pictures really do not do the room justice.
